About
Jarvix is a singer-songwriter and one man band from Oklahoma City.
With an array of self-produced material
released in the past three years, Jarvix defies easy genre
categorization. From the whimsical musings of Hugh Manatee & Other Favorites to the emotional live takes of The Looper Sessions to the electronic ukulele-free satire of 130BPMEP, his albums show a diverse musical palette and a burning desire for experimentation.
In
a live setting, he makes the most of a simple setup, which involves a
looping pedal, a ukulele, a microphone, and a handful of instrumental
odds and ends. With this, he crafts multi-layered live arrangements that
engage spectators in both the songs and the processes behind them.
Since
playing his first open mic in 2014, he has slowly gained a dedicated
following that has led to opportunities both familiar and unique. He has
become a regular in the local music scene, having played at all of the
usual live music venues and arts festivals.
However, he also has opened for Grammy-nominated duo Trout Fishing in
America, helped run a popular variety open mic in the Plaza District
known for its alt humor, and celebrated the American Pigeon Museum's
first anniversary with back-to-back performances. The Oklahoma Gazette
recently heralded him as "truly original".
Drawing
inspiration from fellow musical outsiders like David Byrne (of Talking
Heads) and Marrill Garbus (of tUnE-yArDs), Jarvix channels his unusual
persona to not just entertain, but to also inspire others to embrace their inner weirdness.
